Our last night in Paris, we did the most cliché thing EVER. We grabbed a baguette, camembert, sausage, a pear we swiped from our hotel buffet and a bottle of red wine and had a picnic outside for dinner. The sun was setting in the Marco-Polo gardens and we were the happiest clams just munching away on this deliciously simple meal- suffice it to say, this was one of our best meals in Paris. We also managed to bring a bottle of nice red wine with paper cups to celebrate & savor the meal on a park bench. Did you know that in France that technically it is not illegal to drink or have an open container in public? You can only be arrested or fined for acting “with public drunkenness” in parks, hence, the 1 bottle of wine.
1 loaf of French Baguette
1 wheel of Camembert Cheese
1-2 ripened Pears
1 link of hard dried Sausage (Salami or Saloumi)
1 bottle of red wine (for drinking!)
First, before you do anything, open the bottle of wine and pour yourself a drink. Now that that is out of the way…
Cut the loaf of French bread in half, ready to be filled with fixings. Open the camembert cheese and take off the plastic wrap outside of the rind and let sit for a few minutes to soften. Meanwhile, cut the pears first in half and then into smaller sections lengthwise. Depending on the type of sausage you have, you may need to peel the rind off first, so check the label. Cut the sausage into coin shaped slices so as to stack evenly with the cheese and fruit. At this point, the Camembert should have softened. Slice the Camembert lengthwise and place directly onto the French Baguette until the wheel is completely gone or as much as you’d like. Then place the sausage and pear on top. Refill your glass of wine, then tear off and share the Baguette with someone you love.
