The Farm at South Mountain

In Phoenix, once we hit October, it’s officially time to CELEBRATE Fall. Neighbors start to pull our their Halloween decor and it’s cooler early in the morning and evening when the sun sets. This is the best time of year to scope out the best outdoor play spaces and hiking routines. The Farm at South Mountain, is an excellent place to do just that.

For any local Phoenician who has never been to The Farm at South Mountain, you really are missing out. Although I’ve been a regular to the scene since 2008, I really don’t blame you as for years this secret spot was hidden right around my old office. Located off of the I-10 going South & University Dr. in Phoenix, the whole operation is essentially unseen to passers by.

The farm itself sits on a few acres and includes a beautiful pecan grove , citrus trees, fresh herbs along and a hobby farm. A few chickens, ducks and a resident turkey call this place home along with 3 supreme restaurants. Stop by for breakfast at The Morning Glory Cafe or an exquisite meal at Quiessence which boasts a five course dinner where reservations are needed. I personally LOVE the salads and sandwiches at the Farm Kitchen for lunch. The Farm Kitchen is hard to beat with family in tow. The grounds are free to the public to roam around, although it’s encouraged to purchase food and contact the facility directly if you would like to plan a party.

Once the weather has cooled down, this is a great spot to take kids to run around and get their energy out. It’s also a great space to grab a drink (or two) and have weekend brunch or a weekday lunch. Feeling a little energetic yourself? Then pick up a bean bag and play corn hole with a new friend. There are plenty of picnic tables and grassy areas to spread out and relax. Even if the sun is out, there is plenty of shade under the Pecan trees and many vine covered areas to rest and take in the fresh air.

Please let me know if you end up visiting! I look forward to hearing about your outdoor excursion here.
