Happy Anniversary John! Pull out the Wedding China

WHOA! How has it been 9 yrs already?? I can’t believe it’s been 9 years when it feels like being married to John for 5 minutes. Throw in a few kids and you wake up, look around, and think- how did that happen? This year, as we celebrate 9 incredible years together, I am even more excited to pull out our wedding china.

There are many parts of me that made up a “traditional bride” and wedding china was one of them. I remember growing up and seeing my grandmother’s and mother’s china and hearing about the stories of how they received them. I also remember the almost sacredness to each plate and dish where they were only used on holidays and were to be hand washed. Those times were very different.

When we were engaged, I thought to myself, we may well have this china for a LOOOOONNNGGG time. Picked out long before COVID our wedding china signified our shared style and tastes for entertaining people in our home. The pieces for me would also be a part of our legacy of a couple and hopefully someday be passed on to our kids for them to use in celebration of future milestones.

There’s many types of fine china, although less now than before COVID. The reputation of brand stands true and many have been open for business hundreds of years. Brands like Scully & Scully, Lenox, Haviland and Noritake are known to many households in the US. We selected Lenox vintage jewel fine china and marquise by Waterford stemware (pictured above). For what it’s worth, set around a dining room table, they are gorgeous. Regardless of what you are cooking, fine china makes the meal feel special.

And then there was the preparedness factor. John’s family is large and we were both becoming more established within our chosen fields. It’s possible I thought we would need to be ready to host dinners for some important people. Whether it was going to be a client or the President of the United States, I was going to be ready.

This year, like the 8 years prior, we pull out 2 sets of our wedding china and have a romantic dinner at home. We toast to the memories of our wedding in November 2013 and all of the blessings that have been bestowed upon us. We remember our family and friends who were with us on that day. Some still with us, some in heaven. We chat about the kids. We are grateful. We celebrate life. CHEERS!
