This is the obligatory summertime sunscreen post. For most of the northern hemisphere, wearing sunscreen is done three months out of the year. But for myself and many others, wearing sunscreen year round to ensure healthy skin is key to anti-aging and preventing skin cancer. Living in Arizona means sun every day through every season. By now, many of you may already be rocking your summertime glow or bronze kissed skin from some laps at the pool or beach. I’m also in that camp but continue to wear sunscreen rain or shine, tan or no tan.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, it’s important for everyone over six months of age to wear sunscreen daily. By doing so, regardless of where you are geolocated, you can drastically reduce your risk of skin cancer by up to 50%. WOW! That’s certainly something the celebrate! The site is full of additional information surrounding types of sunscreen as well as a good rule of thumb to always wear at least SPF 15 or higher. The Skin Cancer Foundation also recommends that you see a dermatologist at least once a year for a routine skin check up just as you would a regular physical.

These are just some of the reasons I use sunscreen on my face and body every day. It’s really the best step toward anti-aging and skin cancer prevention and is a very quick and easy step in a daily beauty routine. However, finding a brand of sunscreen with ample coverage that does not feel tacky can be VERY challenging. Trust me, I’ve tried many different types of sunscreen, but I have worn La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Milk Sunscreen for 4 years.
I keep wearing this sunscreen because it’s 60 SPF and literally melts into your skin. It has the consistency of a liquid moisturizer and leaves no greasy residue. As part of my daily beauty ritual, I coat my face in this sunscreen following my day cream, but before my makeup. This brand is also very easy to find as I usually pick it up at Walgreens or Target. I’ve also been able to find it on Amazon which has been a real lifesaver when I cannot get to the store.
Just remember that regardless of what sunscreen you choose, that you pay attention to the sunscreen expiration date. Most sunscreens are good for at least 12 months but some may expire sooner due to active ingredients. Here’s wishing you a summer filled with sun and lots of sunscreen.
